An "Award for All" grant in 2008 enabled the setting up of a junior badminton club that has steadily grown in numbers over the years. The junior club was primarily setup to teach juniors the basic skills and encourage physical activity on cold winter nights. All sessions are run by a Badminton England qualified coaches with the help from the adult club members. Players from 12 to16 attend and some juniors have ventured into local tournaments with some success. Rackets, shuttles and coaching are all included in the hour long session for only £1 per player.
Thursday sessions at the Swan Centre Sports Hall run from 4:00pm until 5:00pm during autumn, spring and summer term time. With monthly best improver trophy and regular games the juniors are kept busy and challenged.
The club also hosts the annual junior U14 and U17 tournament in Feb with entries from across the county and borders.
